Successful Cycling Weekend: Victories in Ilirska Bistrica and Excellent Racing at the Alpe Adria Tour in Austria

Last weekend was full of exciting events for cycling enthusiasts, with exceptional cycling events taking place in both Slovenia and Austria. In Ilirska Bistrica, the criterium thrilled spectators with victories, while in Austria, the Alpe Adria Tour began, where our cyclists also proved themselves with their excellent performances.

On Saturday, Bastian Petrič shone among the younger juniors in Ilirska Bistrica and earned first place. With his victory, he demonstrated the exceptional talent and hard work that young cyclists put into their sport. The young women did not lag behind, as they proved with their exceptional performances that women's cycling is also on the rise.

In Sunday's Alpe Adria Tour race, Miha Otoničar finished in 7th place and Jure Jovanovič in 9th place, placing them among the top ten. The competition was extremely strong, making their rankings particularly impressive.

Younger and older juniors also competed in the same race. Among the younger juniors, our boys showed a competitive ride despite the absence of the top three cyclists. Žan Lopatič proved himself with a 21st place finish after returning from a long absence from competition. Among the older juniors, Tine Jenko achieved an excellent 6th place in a strong field. The other boys were not far behind, which promises an exciting continuation of the competition.

Sunday's stage of the Alpe Adria Tour was extremely successful for our cyclists. In the boys' A and B categories, Miha Otoničar came in 7th, Maks Majnik 9th, and David Štembal 10th. With this result, Otoničar consolidated his 5th place in the overall standings.

In the junior category, Žiga Hamun achieved an excellent 9th place in the group sprint, while Gašper Klanjšček finished 6th after a long breakaway, and Jure Medved came in 9th. Klanjšček thus advanced to 4th place in the overall standings.

All these exceptional performances by our cyclists in various competitions reflect their hard work, training, and dedication to the sport. Fans are eagerly awaiting the next stages and looking forward to future successes.

To be continued….

The tense days of the Alpe Adria Tour race brought exciting moments and impressive achievements for our local cycling heroes. Today and yesterday, our exceptional riders raced along the winding roads, demonstrating their exceptional riding skills, which attracted the attention of fans and cycling experts.

Yesterday brought some real cycling atmosphere as our representatives competed in the difficult conditions of the Alpe Adria Tour race. Their achievements are undoubtedly a source of pride for the entire cycling community, as they proved themselves among strong competition.

The Alpe Adria Tour race was not only intended for experienced cyclists, as younger and older juniors also took part in the race. In the Junior category, our boys showed exceptional fighting spirit and perseverance despite the absence of the most recognizable cycling names, who were competing in other competitions. Žan Lopatič took 21st place, which is particularly important as he returned after a long absence from competition. Our team was also well represented in the Older Juniors category, with Tine Jenko taking an excellent 6th place.

An exciting race and excellent results for the POGI TEAM UAE GENERALI at the GP Val Degano race

Today, the younger members of the POGI TEAM UAE GENERALI took part in the demanding GP Val Degano race, which took place on a 73-kilometer-long track with 1,200 meters of elevation gain. The race featured numerous climbs and descents, presenting a real challenge for all participants.

From the very start, it was clear that the race would be fast and tense, as a dangerous breakaway of ten cyclists, including our fighter Žiga Hamun, took off early on. The group of escaped cyclists persisted in the lead, but they were also in the mirror of the main group of competitors the entire time.

Throughout the race, the pace in the peloton was extremely high, with the riders showing exceptional fighting spirit and a desire to succeed. Before the final climb, the group of breakaway riders was caught, and the peloton was now severely depleted, with only fifteen riders remaining.

At the end of the race, Bor Ebner stood out among our members, showing exceptional skill and strength despite the grueling race and demanding course. Bor fought hard until the very last meter and achieved an excellent ninth place. This achievement is particularly important as it proves that he has returned even stronger after recovering from injury and that he can once again compete with the best in Italy.

Congratulations to the entire POGI TEAM UAE GENERALI for their heartfelt performance and excellent achievements at the GP Val Degano race! Together, you have shown that hard work and dedication bring results. Special congratulations go to Bor Ebner for his outstanding achievement and perseverance in this demanding race.

Another successful test is behind us, filling us with optimism and excitement for new cycling challenges. We are pursuing our goals, training with passion, and looking forward to upcoming races, where we will once again prove that we are one of the strongest teams on the cycling scene.

May cycling continue to bring you joy, happiness, and success! See you at the next race.

Excitement and adrenaline at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Maribor!

With more than 30 years of history, this is the most important competition for young athletes between the ages of 14 and 18.

European Youth Olympics Festival » Maribor 2023

Maribor, Slovenia – The 17th edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival, also known as EYOF 2023 or Maribor 2023, will take place from July 23 to 29, 2023, in Maribor and will be an exciting showcase of young talent in various sports. Among the athletes representing the Slovenian women's cycling team was the promising cyclist Vesna Potočnik (BTC City Ljubljana Team), who competed in both the time trial (TT) and the road race (RR).

The paved streets of Maribor witnessed intense competition in the women's and men's road races, which concluded today. Both races were tense battles, with Italy winning the women's race and Great Britain winning the men's race. There was a particularly exciting moment in the boys' race when British cyclist Himds Max broke away on his own and led for 50 kilometers of the total distance of 68 kilometers. Vanja Kuntarič Žibert (Pogi TEAM) forced a chase of the escaped cyclist and remained in the breakaway for more than 20 km. Despite his courageous efforts, he failed to catch the leading Briton, and the peloton caught up with him in the penultimate lap. Unfortunately, Bastian Petrič had some bad luck, as he was involved in a crash on a slope during the penultimate lap, which prevented him from catching up with the peloton. However, Maia Prevejšek from @adriamobilcycling narrowly missed the podium with an excellent fourth place in the final sprint.

Congratulations to all participants for their dedication and successful performances!
