History of the association
HISTORY OF THE ROG CYCLING CLUB – as remembered by Janez Kupljen
Janez Kupljen – long-time accountant, treasurer, and bookkeeper of the association. He performed his duties from 1949 to 2002.
The Rog Cycling Club was founded on Thursday, November 17, 1949 (article from 1949 PDF). Comrade Smrekar, a former cyclist of the old school, who was not related to the later director, was the most active in promoting the establishment of the club. The founding general meeting, as it is called today, took place at a celebration in the courtyard of the then newly established bicycle and typewriter factory at the end of Cesta dveh cesarjev, where the Plutal factory stands today.

The first meeting space, which was not very large, was located in the former pigsty, which we had of course renovated beforehand. The director at the time, Mirko Kos, supported us by providing us with the first tourist bike prototypes, which were exhibited at the Zagreb Fair, at our request.
The following year, a workers' council and a factory management board were established, which became the patrons of the association and on which we were completely financially dependent. We also introduced membership fees, but there was always a shortage of money.
Since we competed with Rog factory bikes, we decided at the factory's administrative committee to name the competitors the Test Team, because that way we could finance ourselves through daily travel allowances. We had some money left over from the first party and membership fees, so we bought our first racing bike, which our comrade Karo offered us at a low price. We wanted to expand our activities so that we would have as many categories of competitors as possible, so we also needed racing bikes. At that time, the only way to get them was from Italy. The members of the club imported these bikes by asking our relatives in Trieste to get us some racing bikes. In order to import these gifts, which we of course paid for, we needed a whole bunch of certificates from our authorities.
