Tight battles in cycling races: Seniors win Coppa Montes, juniors prove themselves at Strade Fiumane

On April 25, senior youth traditionally took part in the 68th edition of the prestigious Coppa Montes bicycle race in Italy. Jenko Tine excelled with some time on the run, but Marcel Skok achieved the best finish for Pogi Team UAE Generali in 33rd place.

The juniors competed in the Strade Fiumane race, which proved to be extremely challenging due to the rainy weather and macadam sections, which was reflected in many falls. Despite this, our riders achieved good rankings without serious injuries. Among the four escapees, Jakob Šlibar was looking forward to 3rd place, while Žan Lopatič achieved 5th place in the main sprint, and Žiga Stare finished the race right behind him in 6th place.

We successfully held the 2nd Kamnik Cup and VN Generali ZAME

The international cycling race and competition for the Cup of Slovenia for junior juniors, senior juniors, senior juniors and members of the elite went flawlessly. The weather was moderately cloudy, with some sunshine, but fortunately no rain. The competition took place without major injuries.

On Saturday, BTC City Ljubljana Team junior cyclists took part in the Pola Cup in Ptuj, thus opening the competitive season.

S pokalom Poli na Ptuju so tudi mlade kolesarke ekipe BTC City Ljubljana Team to soboto odprle tekmovalno sezono. Po končani dirki so se udeležilile še podelitve Pokala Slovenije 2022 🏆.

POGI Team riders at the Giro di Primavera and the Poli Cup.

On Saturday, April 8, 2023, a team of senior youth participated in the prestigious Italian cycling race Giro di Primavera (UCI 1.1). Among the riders of the Pogi team, Nikolaj Gregorič achieved the best ranking, taking 29th place.

The rest of the team members started competing on home soil on the same day, as this year the Perutnina Ptuj Cycling Club opened the season on Slovenian roads with the traditional Poli Cup race, in which more than 300 young competitors cycled around Hajdoš. POGI Team cyclists achieved excellent results despite very strong international competition (link to results).

POGI FRIENDS – MILAN SAN REMO

The fan group "Pogi Friends" successfully passed their journey.

Before the start of the race Milan - San Remo (2023) we also drove along the route of the famous Milano San Remo monument and drove both climbs, where our boys were gritting their teeth. First the climb to Cipresso and then to the famous Poggio. We hoisted the flags, painted the floor and loudly encouraged our Tadej and of course all the other boys who were part of this wonderful 300km race.

The Pogi Team UAE Generali team participated in the 64th edition of the Giro delle Conche on 12/03/2023

The Pogi team Uae Generali team met on Sunday 12.3. took part in the first race of the new season with the senior junior category.

The 64th edition of the Giro delle Conche in the vicinity of Villa di Villa, has traditionally hosted the introduction to the new season for the category of older juniors. The course measures over 90 kilometers and includes many climbs and winding roads. At the race, the colors of the Pogi team were represented by: Nikolaj Gregorič, Domen Oblak, Gašper Kokalj, Matevž Zajc, Gašper Kokalj and Jakub Husar.

Already at the start, there was a fall where our Nikolaj fell and damaged the bike so much that unfortunately he could no longer continue. The riders of the Borgo molino team ensured a very fast pace at the beginning of the race, and already in the first lap out of 12, 4 riders of this team and one of the Work service team escaped. The fugitives continued in unison until the last lap, after which they were caught by a group of about 20 cyclists who then competed against each other in a sprint for the win.

In the first group, our best Domen Oblak finished in 18th place, while in the second group, Jakub Husar, Gašper Klanjšček and Gašper Kokalj also finished 30 seconds behind. Matevž Zajc retired in the third round due to a fall.

The Giro delle Conche is considered one of the classic races in the Italian cycling calendar and has a long history dating back several decades.

THE POGIFRIENDS FAN GROUP INVITES YOU TO THE SPRING CLASSIC MILAN-SAN REMO

The first monument of the season"La Primavera” Milan - San Remo is one of the oldest bicycle races in the world and, with a 293 km long route, the longest race on the World Tour program. To the Milan - San Remo race, which will be on the program on Saturday, March 18, 2023, we are going with the fan group "Pogifriends", where we will make the famous cycling climb Cypress and Poggio met right from the bike, and then cheered loudly along the race route for the last few kilometers for Slovenian cyclists, especially for Tadej Pogačar.

If you are an enthusiastic cyclist and fan at the same time and would like to experience the cycling atmosphere at spring classics La Primavera under the guidance of the experienced coaches of the Pogi Team UAE Generali team (the team will be led by Tadej's first coach Miha Koncilija), then register quickly for a unique cycling experience, as the number of free places is limited.

THE PROGRAM

Friday, 17.3.2023

  • 7:00 a.m. - assembly at the P+R Long Bridge parking lot and loading the equipment into the van 
  • 7:30 a.m. - departure and drive to San Remo (8 hours drive with two stops)
  • 15:30 – expected arrival and accommodation at the cycling hotel SanRemo Bike hotel
  • 16.00 - short cycling training
  • 19:00 – scheduled dinner; After dinner, visit the city of San Remo

Saturday, 18.3.2023

  • 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. – breakfast
  • 10:00 a.m. – cycling training along the Milan-San Remo race route (Cipresa, Poggio) 
  • 14.00 – watching the match and cheering
  • 17.00 - return home
  • 0.00 – 1.00 expected arrival at the P+R Long Bridge parking lot

The price of the program is 270 EUR/person and includes

  • transportation to San Remo and back,
  • accommodation in two-room beds with half board in the cycling hotel SanRemo Bike hotel,
  • guided cycling tour, watching the race in an attractive place,
  • "Pogifriends" fan gift from the fan club.

Vanja Kuntarič Žibert is the recipient of the Peugeot cycling scholarship for 2023

Peugeot receives the scholarship for 2023 Vanja Kuntarič Žibert, the best boy of the Pogi Team UAE Generali team, who collected the most points in the Slovenian Cup in the 2022 season.
 
The Peugeotslo has been the official vehicle of the Rog in Cycling Association for almost two decades of the legendary Franja Marathon and the last two seasons also POGI TEAM. It's part of the sponsorship PEUGEOT in cooperation with autotechnavis in 2021 handed over the keys to two personal vehicles, a Peugeot 2008 and a 3008. In addition to the official vehicle, the PEUGEOT brand committed at that time to, in addition to sponsorship, also award a cycling scholarship to the best cyclist in the boys' category who wins the most points in the season in 2022.
 

Vanja Kuntarič Žibert competed in the Boys A category last year and collected 515 points in the classification of all boys (A, B and C) in the Cup of Slovenia. Second and third place were taken by two more Pogi Team boys (both Boys C). 505 points were collected by Gal Klun, and 485 by Franci Krajnc.
