August 11, 2024 – ILIRSKA BISTRICA – SVIŠČAKI

In Ilirska Bistrica, there was a climb to Sviščake, in which younger juniors, older juniors, and members competed. Over eighteen kilometers, they had to overcome nine hundred and twenty meters of elevation gain. Jakob Omrzel and our Taj Žagar took the lead in the first few kilometers, but after seven kilometers, Omrzel was too strong for Taj, so they crossed the finish line in first and second place, each at their own pace. Behind them, Jure Medved sprinted for third place but fell short, finishing in ninth place, while Jakob Ahlin finished in tenth place. In the younger juniors category, Miha Otonicar finished fifth and Vanja Kuntaric Zibert eighth.

Younger juniors successfully complete the Udine-Subit race

The younger juniors are returning to racing after a break. 🔥 Today they competed in the Udine-Subit race. 🇮🇹 The race was 76 km long with flat laps at the start, followed by an 8 km climb to the village of Subit at the end. ⛰️

Our POGI TEAM UAE GENERALI cyclists controlled the race perfectly on the flat sections and prevented any dangerous breakaways. Immediately after the start of the climb, the group broke up and that's when the real race began.🥵 Of our cyclists, Miha Otoničar performed best on the climb, fighting for a place in the top ten until the very end. Unfortunately, 200 m before the finish line, he narrowly avoided a crash due to a somewhat unfortunate road closure.😬 Nevertheless, he achieved a respectable 18th place.👏 Shortly after Miha, Matic Vintar also crossed the finish line in 20th place.💪

The younger and older juniors are heading off tomorrow for training camp, which will serve to improve their form ahead of the varied second half of the season.🔥

Youngsters leave a lasting impression in Slovakia – International Cycling Days in Tlmace and Podhajska

This weekend, Slovenia boasted a youth cycling team that demonstrated its perseverance and strength at the Nations Cup race in Tlmače and Podhajská, Slovakia. Jure Medved, Tine Jenko, Bor Ebner, Taj Žagar, and Bastian Petrič represented the older juniors, while Jakub Husar competed for the home team.

The three-day event began with Friday's time trial, which was marked by heat and strong winds, posing additional challenges for the cyclists on the 11-kilometer course. Tine Jenko finished in 24th place, Bastian Petrič in 42nd, and Bor Ebner in 45th. Jenko was the best Slovenian in this time trial, while Jakub Husar finished in 57th place for Slovakia.

The weekend brought two more road races, where our young riders continued their active racing. They maintained their strong form in Saturday's race and prepared the ground for Sunday's final, where expectations were particularly high due to Bastian Petrič's excellent result on Saturday.

Sunday offered a dramatic conclusion, as a crash occurred in the final moments before the finish line, when everything was set for a sprint. Bastian Petrič, who was in an excellent position for a high ranking, was involved in an accident at the front of the group and thus lost his chance for a podium finish. Fortunately, however, the crash did not have any serious consequences.

The Slovenian juniors are returning home enriched by valuable experiences that will undoubtedly contribute to their further development and success on the international scene. With their fighting spirit and teamwork, our cyclists have shown that they are serious competitors in youth races and that the future of Slovenian cycling is in good hands.
