History of the association
HISTORY OF THE ROG CYCLING ASSOCIATION - according to the memory of Janez Kupljena
Janez Kupljen – long-time accountant, treasurer and bookkeeper of the association. He worked from 1949 to 2002.
The Rog Cycling Association was founded on Thursday, November 17, 1949 (article from 1949 PDF). Comrade Smrekar, a former cyclist of the old school, who was not related to the later director, campaigned the most for the establishment of the association. The founding general meeting, as it is called today, was held at a celebration in the yard of the then newly founded factory of bicycles and typewriters at the end of the Road of Two Emperors, where the Plutal factory is today."

We had the first space for meetings, which were not many, in what was then an outbuilding in a former pig barn, which we had, of course, properly arranged beforehand. The director at the time, Mirko Kos, supported us by getting the first tourist bikes-prototypes at our request, which were exhibited at the Zagreb Fair.
In the following year, the workers' council and the management board of the factory were established, which became the patrons of the association and on which we were completely financially dependent. We also introduced a membership fee, but there was always a shortage of money.
Since we were competing with bikes from the Rog factory, we decided at the factory's board of directors to name the competitors the Test Team, because that way we could finance ourselves through travel allowances. We had some money left over from the first party and the membership fee, so we bought our first racing bike, which comrade Karo offered us cheaply. We wanted to expand the activity by having as many categories of competitors as possible, so we also needed racing bikes. These could not be obtained other than from Italy at that time. At that time, members of the association imported such bicycles in such a way that we came up with relatives in Trieste who offered us racing bicycles. But in order for us to be able to import these gifts, which of course we also paid for, we needed a whole bunch of certificates from our authorities.
