Ceremonial handover of the bicycle of Rog cyclist Rudi Valenčič at the Depots of the State Museums in Pivka
On Saturday, February 8, 2025, on the Slovenian cultural holiday, Depots of state museums in Pivka took place ceremonial handover of Rudi Valenčič's bicycle The Museum of Recent and Contemporary History of Slovenia. The event commemorated the exceptional sporting career of one of the most successful Slovenian cyclists and his contribution to the development of cycling in our country.
Rudi Valenčič, known as eagle from Pivka, began his competitive career in 1960 in Cycling Club Rog LjubljanaBetween 1961 and 1971 he was a member of the Yugoslav national team and was considered the best Slovenian cyclist during this period. During his career he achieved 163 one-day race wins at home and abroad, won several times Race across Yugoslavia and other important tests in individual Yugoslav republics. In 1963, he celebrated stage victory at the prestigious Tour de l'Avenir, and three times he became republican road racing champion.
Of particular value is the bicycle that Valenčič donated to the museum – it was with this bicycle that he competed in the Olympic Games in Mexico City in 1968From now on, it will be part of the museum collection and on display in Depots of state museums in Pivka, where it will testify to the rich history of Slovenian cycling.
